My job title is Library & Information Specialist and I work for Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust. Our library service is virtual with information being requested mostly by phone and email and subsequently posted or emailed out. I deal mostly with enquiries for information and support staff on courses and any work-related information need that they might have. We hold a very small stock of print resources and get most of our resources from other libraries such as the British Library. We pride ourselves on being able to source just about any book or article that a user wants. We are a small team of 2.4 full time equivalents and serve a population of 3000 staff. We are a very busy service and I like to think that we are highly regarded in the organisation.
I wanted to tweet for @VoicesLibrary to highlight the variety of work that librarians do and to remind people that we are a skilled resource that is often overlooked.
Library services often contribute to the finished product of someone else’s work and this is seldom highlighted.
I am also tired of people asking me if I get bored stamping books all day. I think Twitter is a fantastic opportunity to engage with people differently.
My normal twitter account is @ShelleyPeters My tweets are a variety of passions – my personal life, my politics and my work life.
