Hi, my name is Donna Saxby and I’m a Chartered Librarian who specialises in services for young people.
I have a background over 18 years in both public and school libraries, and worked up to last summer at an international school in the Netherlands. You may know me on Twitter as @librarydonna and as ‘sidekick’ to reading superhero @realbatgirl.
I am now back in the UK and working at a small school in the rural Cotswold’s creating a library almost from scratch. To explain this a bit further, the school has had a room of books for decades, however they have never had a full time or qualified librarian.
What I am working to create is a space and attitude of the library as the heart of the school, rich in resources both physical and digital, a place where students and staff come for stories and information.
A library should be the centre of the digital, information and emotional literacy of the community it serves, a place where everyone learns and creativity is developed.
I am thrilled to be part of the Voices for the Library ‘rotation curation’ project and hope to show the value a real library can bring to it’s community, and schools in particular.
