The WI

The NFWI has launched the Love Your Libraries campaign after the below resolution was passed at the 2011 AGM in Liverpool with a 98% majority:

The Closure of Local Libraries

“This meeting urges H.M. Government to maintain support for local libraries, as an essential local educational and information resource.”

The Love Your Libraries campaign set up a list of recommended actions for WI federations and individual members and included recommendations such as joining a library, getting to know your librarians, signing the national WI petition to trigger a debate in the House of Commons, and writing to councillors and the leader of local council.

Petition In Support of Public Libraries

The WI has launched an online petition which you can sign here.

Responsible department: Department for Culture, Media and Sport

I, the undersigned, believe that libraries are an essential local educational and information resource yet with many libraries under threat, the future of the library service is at risk. I want to see the value of libraries recognised at both local and national levels and I am calling on the Government to honour both its commitment to act as a champion of the library service, and its duty of oversight to ensure that a comprehensive and efficient library service is provided.

Sign petition

Prime minister David Cameron has pledged to hold a debate on any petition with more than 100,000 signatures.

I am a library assistant of some thirty years plus and freelance authors who believes strongly that libraries are part of the bedrock of our society. Lose them and you lose something irreplaceable. I am wholeheartedly behind your campaign as well.
